Made from 100% reclaimed Australian hardwood, Reconstructed’s latest coffee table range includes several pieces from messmate, with each table highlighting unique grain, character, and craftsmanship that comes from working with aged, repurposed materials. These eco-friendly, stylish centrepieces make a bold statement and add subtle warmth to living rooms.

As part of its commitment to reducing timber waste, Reconstructed salvages high-quality wood from demolition sites through its sister company, The Salvage Centre. Instead of allowing valuable materials to end up in landfills—where over two million tonnes of timber are discarded every year—the company restores and repurposes this wood, giving it a second life as premium furniture.

The company explains that while every piece it produces is sustainably sourced, they are stronger and more durable than furniture made from fast-grown new wood. “Old timber has already stood the test of time. It’s more stable and has a rich character that you can’t replicate with newly harvested materials.”

Its expanded collection includes standout coffee tables such as the Scarborough Messmate Coffee Table, designed to be both a statement piece and a functional centrepiece. Crafted from solid messmate timber and finished with a richly stained surface, it blends rustic charm with contemporary style.

Another piece in the collection is the Byron Coffee Table, which pairs a beautifully grained messmate top with a sleek steel frame. Both tables are available in lengths from compact 600 mm to 1000 mm.

While the new coffee tables are the featured products, they’re just part of Reconstructed’s wider reclaimed timber furniture collection, which also includes dining tables, benches, bed frames, entertainment units, and vanities. Each piece is made to order and usually finished with the same high-performance lacquer used on the company’s timber flooring.

“Every piece we make tells a story—from the old building it came from to the hands that restored it. Our goal is to help customers bring that story into their homes while reducing waste and preserving Australia’s forests,” adds the spokesperson.
