Arthrosamid Injections: Long-Lasting Knee Osteoarthritis Treatment Announced

Arthrosamid is also known as Polyacrylamide (PAAG) hydrogel or just PAAG, and it is injected locally into the synovial membrane of the knee. This important tissue is what essentially prevents the bones and cartilage of the knee from rubbing painfully against each other, and it is what is degraded and eroded by knee osteoarthritis.

The Arthrosamid gel binds to what is left of the membrane, reinforcing it and protecting the synovial fluid which lies beneath it, and—in the longer term—it also acts as a scaffold which encourages the membrane to naturally regenerate itself.

Under clinical trial, the positive effects of a single Arthrosamid injection have been shown to last up to two years, with new research currently exploring its longer-term regenerative potential.
