Stephen L. Sherwin’s Accessible Approach to Conflict Resolution Training

Author, educator, and conflict resolution expert Stephen L. Sherwin is here to release his book, “A Guide to Mediation Training: An Insightful and Uncomplicated Guide to Learning Mediation. It's a comprehensive and accessible manual designed to teach the principles, skills, and values of mediation to professionals and community members alike.

Drawing on decades of experience as a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, Chicago police officer, certified mediator, and university professor, Sherwin presents a practical, human-centered approach to resolving disputes. The book is grounded in the principles of restorative justice, cultural competency, and empathy, offering a step-by-step framework for addressing conflicts in a way that repairs relationships rather than damages them.

Mediation is more than a process; it’s a tool for empowerment. This book allows you to have a voice, to be heard, and to participate in shaping solutions that work for everyone involved.

Inside, you will find clear explanations of mediation theory and practice, including:

  • How to distinguish between conflict and dispute
  • Key communication skills such as active listening and reframing
  • The five-step mediation process, from opening statements to agreements
  • Strategies for creating safe, respectful spaces for dialogue
  • The role of cultural awareness and psychological insight in achieving lasting resolutions

Designed for law enforcement, educators, HR professionals, community leaders, students, and anyone seeking to improve their conflict resolution skills, A Guide to Mediation Training bridges the gap between theory and real-world application. Sherwin’s accessible writing style and real-life examples make it a valuable resource for both new and experienced mediators.

The book also serves as a training tool for organizations looking to implement mediation programs in schools, workplaces, and community settings, offering adaptable techniques that can be applied in both formal and informal disputes.

A Guide to Mediation Training available on Amazon and leading bookstores nationwide.
